Thanks.)

In relation to Mindmanager, everything you've written I agree with. I'm
preparing to use Project so since your like minded ...

Critical
Path Method scheduling. You can learn it in a few hours.

Would you suggest any specific/essential references you've found?

Lewis, "Project Planning, Scheduling and Control"
MindManager. It's not true mind-mapping software, but it is excellent
at organizing systems with complex relationships. If you're strictly
interested in the various icons, arrow, etc that mind-mapping entails,
it's not for you. But I think it makes better use of a computer's
capabilities than other similar software.

Could you elaborate on how you utlise PersonalBrain since at face value
it's not an integrated product?

Brain does not directly integrate with Project, or any other app I
know. As an example of how you could use it, it can be a "Document
Control" tool. Since you can attach most any MS, or other kind, of
document to a node in TheBrain, you can interconnect documents. So if
you create a categories like "From", "To", "Topic", "Area", etc, you
take a given document and attach it to each of these categories. Later,
if you're looking for it, all you have to remember is one of these
items and look at the doc's in that category.

It can also be connected to other documents. If it's a response to
another document, or causes another document to be generated, you could
create a parent/child link or a sibling link between them. You just
have to set up your system and be consistent. It's like a graphic
relational database.

I could spend hours explaining it, but if you download the freebie and
test it out, you may find it useful. If not, it's just another learning
experience.

Yes this does help

I'm very new to all this so bear with me. <G>

Tell me...can these "tools" be used in my personal life
as well as career?

I've been thinking abt buying MindManger and Project
Kickstart as well

Both these tools can be used in your personal life. Project for doing
projects, MindManager for organizing and figuring out the relationships
between different aspects of your life. You should know that using
Project effectively requires at least a basic knowledge of Critical
Path Method scheduling. You can learn it in a few hours.
I'd also recommend that you look at "TheBrain" software before you buy
MindManager. It's not true mind-mapping software, but it is excellent
at organizing systems with complex relationships. If you're strictly
interested in the various icons, arrow, etc that mind-mapping entails,
it's not for you. But I think it makes better use of a computer's
capabilities than other similar software. It's at
http://www.thebrain.com/.
Best of luck!

Hi

If you create a relationship between topics, when you export this it
will be shown as a dependancy in the project.

If you any further issues please let me know, especially re
configuration of the export of a map.

All the best

Bill Wells

Not sure who you're addressing, Bill. And which software you're talking
about. Can you elucidate?

Hi Dave

Sorry for last posting -

If you want to create a parent child link between topics in Mindmanager
version 6, do this by inserting a relationship. This is shown
graphically by a line linking 2 topics.

When you export this map to Microsoft Project or via an MPX file to
another project management software, the topics will have a parent
child dependancy.

Hope this is a little clearer.
