Misc Project Server 2007 Questions

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this discussion group. I have a couple of outstanding
issues I have been having with testing MS Project Server 2007. So I
thought I'd go to the experts.
I hope you can help me.

1). We have elected to manually import our active 2003 projects into
MSP 2007. I have tried this so many times and so many ways, but can't
figure out how to map custom fields to the same custom fields already
created in PS 2007. I thought the import would give a mask mapping
from old custom fields to new custom fields? Do you know if this can
be done? Or the best way to import?

2), When a project manager creates a new project in MSP 2007 and
provisions a new workspace, how can I automatically make that project
manager the web admin of that web site. I did find through Server
Settings -> Site Actions -> Site Settings -> Advanced Permissions ->
Settings -> Permission Levels (phew that's a long trail) that I can
change the Permission levels for the Project Manager- adding most of
the settings that a web admin would have. But when I open up an
existing workspace and click "People and Groups" I cannot see anywhere
where I can edit or add a new user to the web site. I even tried to
re-publish that project but still no "new or edit" buttons.

Thanks,
KarenF

Hi Karen,
Re Custom Fields, you will need to create the same custom fields in Project
Server that exist in the individual projects. So if you have a task custom
field in an .mpp file, then you'll need to create a custom field in Project
Server of the same type (task custom field with the same values etc, however
the custom field name can be different), and then you can import the project.
When you import the project, you will be asked to map the fields, and they
must be of the same type otherwise the wizard will stop and you won't be able
to perform the import. If you are importing many projects, then you'll need
to spend some time analysing the current local custom fields...

Re the Project Manager/Web Admin role, these permissions are defined by
project server. For PMs to have the Web Admi role, you need to give them
the Manage Windows SharePoint Services permission in Project Server. This
will add them to the Web Adminstrator (Microsoft Office Project Server) group
in WSS and should accomplish what you require. Setting this permission and
republishing should have the desired effect.

Ben,
Re 1: When you say "they need to be of the same type" - is that true
between Enterprise Outlook Codes in P2003 and Lookup Tables in P2007.
meaning, I have several Enterprise Outline Codes in P2003 that I have
re-created in P2007 as lookup tables. Are these OK?

Thanks,
KarenF
