missing contact group definitions

When ever I make a backup (export to .pst) file of outlook
2000 then restore (import .pst) it on my laptop, my
contact groups are missing. All the individual contacts
are there but the group definitions are gone. How do I
back these up also?

I've searched through many newsgroups and can't find an
answer. Help.

That's not how you make a backup. Just copy your PST with Outlook closed.
You don't have to do any more than that. To restore, just use
File>Open>Outlook Data File (or Personal Folders File, depending on Outlook
version). You are guaranteed to lose nothing that way.
