Missing E-Mail Problem

I have a client with Outlook 2003. She is having a strange problem:

She is missing CERTAIN e-mails. The e-mails are from a period of a
few months. All e-mail from that time frame are gone. She has e-mail
from before that, and after that in her program.

Is there any reason for that e-mail to disappear? Perhaps an
archiving feature? I did a search for archive.pst and it found
nothing.

right click on the personal folder | autoarchive and check the options

Run Autoarchive every 14 days - checked
Prompt before autoarchive runs - checked
delete expired items - checked
archive or delete old items - checked
show archive folder in folder list - checked
move old items to "path" - selected

I did a search - there are no archive.pst files in the computer. what is going on!?
