missing emails in outlook 2007

Hello,
I have a user who is missing emails in his inbox, his inbox only shows items for the past week, but according to him he should have many many more emails. He has been prompted to archive but according to him he has said no to it. There is no archive file on his machine that I can find. On the exchange server his mailbox is 900k, but his ost file is 1.6 gigs. We are on O2007 and exchange 2007.
Does anyone know what is going on as well as how to recover his missing emails?

Thanks!!!
DC.

Outlook had it configured to archive, but it was set to ask before he archived, he had been telling it no to archive. I have since disabled it in GP. But I have searched for an archive pst file and can not find one anywhere on his pc and home drive..

There should be no PST on his home drive unless it was deliberately moved
there. Microsoft doesn't support the use of PST's across a network since
Outlook requires constant read/write access to the file. If there is the
smallest blip in network traffic or connectivity, the file will likely
corrupt.

The PST file is usually in a hidden folder, the location depends upon the
O/S. You should be able to do a file/folder search and include hidden
folders and files. The default name of the archive PST is archive.pst but
you can simply search for *.pst.

That's exactly what I did. I changed the folder settings to view all hidden files and did a search for *.pst, but nothing came up. I also went to the archive settings to see where it was pointing and went to that location but again there was no .pst files just the ost file and some temp files..

Have him reset the view to its defaults. See if that makes a difference.
Have him choose another view like "Messages with Autopreview" or "This Month"
to see if that makes a difference. If it does, it's likely his Messages view
has been altered.

You can have him open Outlook using the /cleanviews switch:

Start > Run > outlook.exe /cleanviews

Thanks for the suggestions but no change.

Since his offline file is double the size of his exchange mailbox could the missing email still be in his ost file? If so is there a way to pull them out?

Thanks again

Click File and check Work Offline. Close and restart Outlook. All the data
in the OST should then be available. If it's still there, it should show up.

Brian,

I did try going into offline but the mail still did not show up. It does seem like the view is set to last 7 days because now it shows only until 07/08. But I have gone into the views settings and I have ran the switch /clearviews as well as tried other views but still nothing changes on what he sees in his inbox. The sent items shows much older emails so what could be going on with the inbox? Also why is the offline file double the size of the outlook mailbox?

Thanks for your assistance on this issue,
DC

I would expect a mismatch in the size of the OST vs. the size of the mailbox.
Exchange stores things much more effeciently. I don't know if a 50% smaller
mailbox is rea0osnable, though. I'll let someone else answer that.

Sounds like your best bet is to work with your Exchange admin and IT people.

Maybe your .pst file was broken.
You can try a popular Outlook recovery tool called Advanced Outloo
Repair to repair your PST file. It is a powerful tool to recove
messages, folders and other objects from corrupt or damaged Microsof
Outlook PST files.

Detailed information about Advanced Outlook Repair can be found a
http://www.datanumen.com/aor/

And you can also download a free demo version a

Good luck!

You can also try to find and recover user's missing emails with Easy
Mail Recovery software:

http://www.munsoft.com/EasyMailRecovery/

The program uses original algorithms that assist in the recovery of a
maximum number of messages even if the mail client cannot open the
message database.
