Missing MS_ProjectServer_PublicDocuments site

C

C. Williams

I have followed the instructions in the Microsoft Office Project
Server 2003 Single Computer Installation Guide for setting up project
server on a single Windows 2003 Server.

One deviation in the instructions is that I did not extend the Default
Web Site. Instead I chose to extend another site running on a
different port i.e. http://servername:5150. This site has its own
application pool running in the context of NetworkService

When I run the Sharepoint wizard on the Project Server 2003 CD, I
understand that a MS_ProjectServer_PublicDocuments site is supposed to
be created. It never is. As a result, I cannot connect Project Server
to a Sharepoint site.

Is this type of setup un-allowable or am I missing something?

I recommend setting up SharePoint Services on a separate virtual web site
not on the default, so your setup is fine. What happens when you run the
wizard? Does the site show up for you?

Gary,

First, Thank you for your reply.

When I run the wizard from the Project Server 2003 splash screen, I am
able to see the virtual website I have created and provisioned. I
selected sites as the managed path. Here's the hitch: I'm not to
clear on this point, but I noticed looking in App Mgr there doesn't
seem to be a sites folder under this virtual site, nor the Default Web
at the time the wizard is run. Isn't sharepoint supposed to create
this
on install? If so, what could be preventing this from being created?

I appear to be able to get the administration page
http://servername:5125/
and to the project web access http://servername:5150/ProjectServer.

Logging in as administrator gives me

Risks and Issues.
There is a problem establishing a connection with the Web server
running Windows SharePoint Services

Your help is much appreciated

Perhaps you missed the step of extending the virtual site before you run
wsswiz? You do this from SharePoint Central administration. The SharePoint
installation process does not do this for you, it's a separate and distinct
post-installation step.

Gary,

I created separate virtual sites for Sharepoint and for the Project Server.
Once I did this and went back throught the steps, Project Server worked fine.
Not 100 percent clear if this is what the instructions were trying to say or
not since the steps were applied to the Default Web Site.

Anyway, Thank you for the help ...

To put them in the same virtual site, you must make sure that Project Server
is excluded from the WSS managed paths. Your solution is my standard.
