Missing Navigation Links

I have renamed index.htm to index.html to run on a linux
server. When I do, the navigation bar breaks as soon as
I add a new page to the navigation structure. I can not
seem to insert a new one or rebuild it. I have pasted
code from a similar home page and it immediately gets
stripped out.

I have tried re-applying the theme and lots of other
tricks without results.

Any ideas how to get my navigation links back?

In Folder list, select index.html and right click it to make it your home page
Then in Navigation View drag your pages under it
