Missing ruler

Word 2002, Windows XP.
When I start Word, the ruler is not visible. I have to go to the View menu
to show the ruler. I decided to try deleting the data key in the registry. I
went to the //HKEY-CURRENT-USER\software\microsoft\office\10.0\Word key, but
there is no data key. So, I'm not sure what to try next.

Very odd. Do you see anything listed under:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Word

?

....and you're sure you're using Word 2002? Do you see any other versions of
Office listed under:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office

?

Also, make sure you're really looking at HKEY_CURRENT_USER. When the names
are that long, it's easy to mistake one for another.
