Missing ruler

J

John Garate

Word 2002, windows XP.
The ruler won't stay visible. Every time I start word, I have to go to the
view menu to turn on the ruler. "provide feedback with animation" is not
checked in the Options menu.

Does the article "my menus and toolbars are missing and won't come back"
apply to Word 2002 and Windows XP?

Although missing menus and toolbars are most prevalent in Word 2000, that
Registry key can become damaged in any version of Word, so rebuilding it
*might* cure your problem. But I must say that, ever since I hid the ruler
in Print Preview (don't know how it got turned on there), it has been very
shy in Normal view as well. Most of the time it is displayed when I start
Word, but more often than I am happy with, it is not. This is just one of
the display vagaries I'm experiencing in Word 2003, and I'm convinced it is
somehow related to SDI, but I haven't been able to pin down a specific
cause, especially for things such as the ruler, since I display it in all
views, all documents.
