missing ruler!

I don't know when or how it happened, but one day, I opened up Word (XP) and
my rulers were gone... I tried the suggestion it had in the help file, but it
was only for the vertical ruler and it didn't work anyway. Is there any way
for me to reclaim my ruler?

Take a look under Tools/Options/General and make sure you do not have
"Provide feedback with animation" turned on. Then as 'garfield'
suggested, go to the View menu and make sure Ruler is turned on.
