Missing Spell check and Grammer - Hard Drive crash

B

Bernadette

Help? My hard drive crashed and the repair shop held my computer captive for
6 days. Then they (supposedly) backed-up all my data and program from the
bad hard drive to the new hard drive. Everything is so screwed up. MS
support for Word 97 is no longer avaiable.
I selected options and the Spelling and Grammer button is NOT highlighted.
I am missing the spell checker and grammer and thesaurus.
PLease ...please ...can anyone help me get these back. I really need them.
Thank you,
Bernadette

If the hard disc crashed, the repair shop may not have been able to recover
everything intact.

A repair of the installation of Word would be a good first step. Then see -
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm and
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/MissingMenusEtc.htm

You may have to re-install other errant applications also - as the crash
could have damaged their registry entries and while I would have hoped that
the repair shop would have repaired Windows itself, it is possible that too
may need repair.

Unfortunately a major hard disc crash can be traumatic. When you get it
running properly again, consider using Ghost to backup an image of your disc
to rescue you from any future problem. -

Thank you much for your response. I'll follow the rcommendations about
correcting the registry. This will be my first time in the registry ... so
say a prayer.
But, right now I have to prep my house for Hurricane Charley .. for I am in
the Tampa Bay area.
Again, thank you so much.

Fellow MVP Greg Maxey is in your area and battening down the hatches also.
Stay safe!
