Like your Caps lock, it seems your Word data key in the registry is corrupt.
....... And your spell check is not working either.......
Rename the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Data (where 11.0 is
the Office version)
to (say) olddata and restart Word. You will lose some personalisations.
CAPs are considered SHOUTING!!! We don't appreciate being shouted at :(

thanks for the info, i didn't know about "shouting" and i will be more aware
of the use of caps. i am not a chat room or blogger person and rarely enter
into any discussion forums so i am not familar with the protocol of this form
of communication. i am also not familar with the workings of a computer, so
please explain where i find this "key" that i have to rename. or maybe it
might just be easier to download another 'Word" program and remove the old
corrupted one.... any thoughts???? thanks, again, velma.

actually i am very soft spoken.... "shouting" is a new term for me in this
kind of communication. thankfully, graham mayor told me what " shouting" is
in keyboard terms. velma

Well, all lowercase is generally frowned on, too. The best approach is to
type just as you (presumably) would in writing a letter.

The key is in the Windows Registry. On the Start menu, select Run and type
"regedit" (without the quotation marks), then press Enter. This will open
the Registry. You can navigate it the same way you would an Explorer window;
Graham has given you the path: click the + beside the HKEY_CURRENT_USER
folder, then open the Software folder within it, then Microsoft within that,
and so on. For more on how to do this, see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/MissingMenusEtc.htm

Note that uninstalling and reinstalling Word/Office (even if you could
"download" another copy) will not help in this case because it doesn't
overwrite the Registry.
