Mixed Office Update Problem

Started with new harddrive. XP with slipsteamed SP3 installed. Running
good. Just installed a new retail Office 2003 Professional I've had for over
2 years. Also ran good. I did the Office 2003 Service Pack 3 update. I saw
there were other updates waiting to be installed. The reason I waited so
long to install it was I didn't want to lose MS Photo Editor in Office XP,
which I use a lot.

Since I found instructions on how to install just the Photo Editor with
Office 2003 and later issues I decided to go ahead and install it next and
then do the Office update again as I was expecting to get updates for Office
2003 and for the Photo Editor application from the Office XP.

I installed the MS Photo Editor ONLY from my Office XP disc following the
instructions when you click the "Reinstall Photo Editor from your Office XP
disc on this page:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/HP011454871033.aspx?pid=CH010344601033

When running Windows Update or Office Update I'm only being shown updates
for Office XP. I'm not seeing the Office 2003 updates that I know I need.
Plus the XP updates I'm seeing are for XP products I didn't even install.

So, what should I do? I'm guessing a possible sequence might be: 1.
Uninstall Photo Editor from Office XP. (WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO DO THIS?)
2. Check for updates then and see if I get the 2003 updates. 3. If no 2003
updates appear then uninstall 2003. 4. Reinstall 2003. 5. Get all the
updates. 6 Reinstall Office XP Photo Editor.

The MS page about installing Photo Editor from Office XP at
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/HP011454871033.aspx?pid=CH010344601033
said nothing about creating Office update conflicts. That caught me by
complete surprise! So if anyone has any ideas about the best way to resolve
this I'd be very grateful.

Hi Dave,

When you 'Run Office XP Setup' to install all or just a piece of an Office product suite you have installed the core files for that
product suite. The update site is based on keeping the licensed product updated (i.e. the full suite) up to date so that if you
decide to change the installed feature set of Office (the full Office XP choices should be in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows
Control panel) so that you could activate, Word, for example and wouldn't need to do another round of 'get the updates' from that
change. MS Office Photo Editor will sort of run without being 'installed' but that can cause other occassional odd things to happen.

There are some updates that are automatically routed for installation based on your settings via http://update.microsoft.com, others
that are available manually prior to that happening (but run a check of your computer there first), you should see the status of
updates for both 2003 and XP/2002, but you may want to review the contents of this article that applies in this type of scenario as
well

It appears from the info on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/828956/en-us?FR=1
that I should have installed the Photo Editor first from Office XP and then
installed Office 2003.

Question 1. What should I do? Install 2003 again? Or do I have to
UNINSTALL both Office XP and Office 2003 and then reinstall them in the
correct order?

Question 2. If uninstalling is required, EXACTLY what is the best way to
uninstall Office XP and what is the best way to unistall Office 2003? At
this point I'd be willing to lose Photo Editor and get used to using
something else.

I'm backing up my emails in a minute in case I have to uninstall and
reinstal.

Thanks in advance.
Dave
