MODI Driver

I have 2 PCs, a Desktop (NetVista)and a Laptop (ThinkPad), both IBM purchases
and configured by them with Windows XP SP2 with all the latest fixes. Both
have Microsoft Office Document Imaging installed as part of Microsoft Office
Tools. The version shows as 1.03.2349.1, which shows to be part of Office XP
Professional, Version 2002. On both PCs, if I go to Start > All Programs >
Microsoft Office Tools, I have an icon for MODI and the app starts correctly.

The ThinkPad does not have a printer attached. If I am online and print
from within my browser, one of my selectable printers (the default) is the
MODI printer. I can select Print to file and I can give filename and
location of my choice. Then, this process causes the MODI app to be opened
and I can see the page there that I've printed. I then can do a Save as to
create another file if I wish. All this works as I would expect. I don't
know how the MODI printer was created in my Control Panel, but it appears
there just like a real piece of hardware would.

However, when I try this same scenario on my NetVista, there is no icon for
a MODI printer in my Control Panel Printers and Faxes folder. I have tried
to add a MODI printer, but when I add MODI as a Local Port (which is how my
ThinkPad has it defined), the pop-up for Install Printer Software does not
include a driver entry for MODI, and I can't successfully create a MODI
Printer icon.

If I transport the .tif file from my ThinkPad to my NetVista, MODI can open
the file without a problem.

I've read through most of the MODI posts and don't see any that help me. A
number of the posts say to go into Add/Remove Programs and change Microsoft
Office (my list shows Microsoft Office Basic Edition 2003), however, when I
follow this suggested procedure, Microsoft Tools does not appear in the list,
so I can't uninstall it separately. All that shows is Word, Excel and
Outlook -- no Tools. So I haven't tried uninstall/reinstall of those apps as
that wouldn't make sense to me.

If I drill into the ThinkPad's MODI Printer, the driver shows as
11.03.1897.00. How can I get this driver installed on my NetVista? How can
I identify what the file name of this driver is so I can locate what folder
it is in? Any help will be greatly appreciated. I hope I've documented my
environments sufficiently.

Do both the desktop and laptop have Office XP, or Office 2003?
Microsoft Office Document Imaging was introduced in Office XP, but the
MODI printer driver feature wasn't added until Office 2003.

Both PCs in Add/Remove show Microsoft Office Basic Edition 2003 and Microsoft
Office XP Professional. Curiously, there is a different level of fixes as I
try to be very diligent about keeping current on both PCs. However, the CDs
are marked differently externally. The Laptop (working PC) CD says Microsoft
Office Basic Edition 2003, whereas the Desktop (failing PC) CD says Microsoft
Office XP. This perhaps explains your point about the driver feature.

Could I possibly resolve this problem by uninstalling all the Office pieces
on the Desktop and reinstall from the Laptop CD? I'm concerned that
Add/Remove shows two pieces for Office as mentioned above. Would I see two
pieces during the reinstall or perhaps not until after the reinstall
completes? Or would I only do the Basic piece?
