Modification of Entry table in Global

Siva

My customer wants to modify the global Entry table. They say that the
default Entry table does not meet their demands. I recommended against
modifying the Entry table, though.

Do I have to anticipate any issues due to the modification?

What's the alternative? Can I create a new table and associate it with
the default view?

THanks.

I always recommend that NO item in the Enterprise Global be named the same
as any item in the default global template for Project 2003. So if there
is an Entry table in the default installation of Project 2003 then have a
table called "Enterprise Entry" in the Ent. Global. If there is a View
called X then make the one in the Ent Global be called "Ent. X" or
something like that. This will keep confusion down to a minimum and will
avoid some confusing error messages you might see.

In my case, the customer wants to remove a few columns from Enterprise
Entry table and add a few other columns. Is it OK to change the
Enterprise Entry table? Is it a best practice to change the Enterprise
Entry table?

Let me give you the reason for customer's request.
The customer wants the PMs to always enter selected few fields.
Typically, whenever Project is opened, it takes PM by default to Entry.
That's why, the customer wants us to modify Entry table. I am thinking
that any Enterprise tables should not be modified.

So, how easily I can satisfy the request without getting into any
technical issues?

Thanks.

Editing the Enterprise Entry table is fine, in fact recommended as a way
to make specific fields available for PMs. The trouble is that doing so
will not stop PMs from looking at other tables. :)

I would not edit a table called "Entry" in the enterprise Global because
there is a table called Entry in the Global of the installation of Project
2003 on the desktops of the users and this will cause them to see some
disconcerting (but not harmful) error messages.

There is not a way to force views to be used. However if the fields they
want to have entered are custom fields they could make them enterprise
fields and mark them as required.

I have a situation. I added a field "Deadline" to "Enterprise Entry". I
also deleted "Entry" table & "Gantt Chart" view in global. When I
restart Project Pro, it always come up with "Entry", which is different
from "Enterprise Entry". I was expecting "Enterprise Entry" to show up
as "Entry. What's happenning here? I don't know whether I understand
this.

Thanks.

Entry will always show up because it is in the global on the individual
machines. What you need to do is have a view in the Enterprise global that
uses the enterprise entry table. Then it will be available to all your
users. But they will also always have Gantt Chart and Entry since it is on
their local machines.
