Modify linked Excel table in Access

I have a database with linked Excel tables. If I make a change (edit) the
Excel tables while I am in MS Access, the Excel table is corrupted when it is
opened in the native Excel program. I have another database that I created 2
years ago and it also had linked Excel tables but there was no problem
editing the Excel table inside MS Access. I cannot figure out the differences
between the two linked Excel tables. Please help.
