Modify task pane in Office XP

N

Niki Estner

Hi there,

Is it possible to modify the task pane in office XP apps, e.g. add a custom
'page'?
All I found on the web was an article about Office 2003's research pane, but
that's not what I want (appears to be a web service...).

I hoped for some kind of 'ITaskPaneItem'-Interface I could implement in a
simple COM-object...

Does anybody know if this is possible?

Thank you

Niki

Hi Niki,

Generally, this is not possible, no. You can add and remove some things in the
"New document" task pane, and that's it in Word 2002/Office XP.

In Word 2003 SmartDocument technology has been introduced. Based on where the
cursor is in a document containing XML tags, you can program in a Windows DLL
what should be displayed in the "Document actions" task pane, and take
actions.
