Modify timesheet view - Project Pro 2003

(I originally posted this in the project standard group and realized
that I posted it to the wrong group)

Project Server / Project Professional 2003 with Service Pack 1.

We have two new custom fields that we want to display on the timesheet
so when team members look at their tasks they will see the new fields.
One is a custom field and one is a custom outline code. Both are at
the task level.

I can modify the timesheet view and add the new columns and they show
up when a team member goes to their task tab. In order for the columns
to actually have any data, a project manager must go to each project
and then do Tools > Customize > Published fields and add the new fields
and then republish the plan with republish all assignments. Somewhat
annoying, but it works.

Now for the part that I don't understand: The fields show up in the
timesheet and the data is being displayed. If I try and group on
either one of the new fields, nothing happens. It is as if I grouped
on the choice "None". I am able to group on the other columns that
exist in the view. However, what it seems like is that I can only
group on the columns that were originally in the timesheet view.

Am I missing something? Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Victor

I don't believe you are missing anything. I have confirmed the same
behavior myself on the Timesheet page. I am not aware of any way to fix
this behavior. Sorry.

Thanks for letting me know your findings. Hopefully this will work
better in the next version of Project Server.

Dale, is this because sever is grouping on Assignment.customfield rather
than the task version?

Victor,

If you use an enterprise custom field you can add it to the Enterprise
Global file and it will be available for all enterprise projects.

Thanks for the clarification. I realize now that I did not state that
I was using an Enterprise field or outline code.

FYI: I did try and add different types of custom fields (through
Published Fields). I tried Task and Assignment fields. It didn't seem
to matter either way.

Thanks,

I'm really not sure why it doesn't work, but your explanation is good enough
for me! :)

I have the same situation... I have a custom outline code in enterprise
global that is a task outline code... the project has been through the
published fields process. and the views were updated to show this
field.

Data exists in the view in the correct enterprise task OLCode field,
but the grouping fails in the view...

What is interesting is that when I export values to excel I get two
tabs (one with the left info from the views, the other with the the
actual valid time sheets entries. We were hoping to group the time
sheet values via the task rollup of the outline code.

It is related to what Rod said about the assignment.customfield rather
than task version? Any other ideas?

Any help in advance would be much appreciated.

Thanks
