Modifying existing Webpage

J

Jeremy

I need to change some text on an existing webpage. I was just hired at this
company and they added the task of updating our website. The website was
designed and setup by one of our dealers. When I spoke to them about
changing the text, they said that the "center stage" area where the text was
at is not their responsibility, and I need to check with our ISP. So I
contacted the ISP and they said it wasn't their responsibility. I am new to
all of this and plan on learning as much as I can.

So, can I use Frontpage to modify this text? If so how? If not, what would
be the best way to go?

Thanks

You need to find out from someone how the content was managed previously on the site. Unless the
site has the FP extensions, you will not be able to open it directly in FP. Not seeing the site, is
would be unsafe to recommend other option which could cause the site to stop working.

Personally, I think the original designer is smoking something.

The content is contained in plain HTML text -

<p align="center" style="word-spacing: 0; margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0">
<font size="3"><b><i>May</i></b></font><b><i><font
size="3"> 2004 Online Special</font></i></b></p>

so it seems it would be easily accessible for editing. Are you wanting to
change

But, I can find no indication that this page is made from a FrontPage web.
I will leave others to address the feasability/advisability of doing such
things with FP.

Yeah, maybe that is why he was fired! Can you suggest the easy of changing
just this? Our site is set up to accept FP extensions, but I can learn all
of that later. Right now I am just interested in changing "May 2004 Online
Specials".

Thanks

That is my problem. The guy who did it before was gone when I got here and
no one else knows how it was done. If you want to take a look at it you can
here.

The address is:

http://www.generalofficeplus.com/specials.htm

At the top of the page it says "May 2004 Online Special". This, of
course,
is out of date and needs to be changed.

Thanks

It appears that you site you is branded from the is.group, so you might want to contact them at
317-845-9155 before you attempt to make any changes to the site content.

Yeah, I have already contacted them. They searched through source and told
me it wasn't theirs. They suggested contacting our ISP, which I did and I
got the same response. The ISP said they weren't responsible for web design
and the kid who was in my position earlier must have done it. So now I am
just left hanging here.

The server has FrontPage extensions installed, so what I would do:
Open FrontPage, click File > Open web and then enter http://www.generalofficeplus.com
When prompted enter the user name ands password.
Then click File > Publish and publish the entire web from the server to a location on your hard
drive.

Then close the server version ( File > Close web ) then click File >Open web and open the copy you
just published to your machine.

Yeah, when I do that the little paperclip tells me the location cannont be
found. When I typed it in, it connected to the web and searched for it, but
came back saying it could be protected.

Do you have the user name and password for the server??

I just need yes or no, I'm not asking for them.

Browse to the page http://www.generalofficeplus.com/specials.htm using Internet Explorer.
when it is open, on The IE Toolbar click File > Edit with Microsoft FrontPage and see what happens.

It should prompt for the user name and password and then let you open the page.
