Not easily, I would suspect; but why would you want to? If you
don't like the spelling of a word in the standard dictionary,
you could probably autocorrect it to whatever you might want.

Thanks for the suggestion James but I'd rather be prompted if I use the
second variation of the word than have it autocorrected if used in the right
context.

I have created the suggested exclusion file for word which includes words
like organize and prioritize (I'm in the UK and want the US spelling
highlighted as incorrect). I have named and saved it in the same directory
as CUSTOM.DIC (even put it in the folder with MSSP3EN.LEX but still it
doesn't work. I have tried it on 2 pcs and I have restarted Word. Can
someone help - please.

Don't you have to go the route: Tools>Autocorrect>Exceptions for
this? I haven't tried but you could probably copy your exclusion
list and Paste it in.

What version of Word are you using? Using Wood 2000, I created a file
named MSSP3EN.EXC and put it in the same folder as Custom.dic (which
happens to be D:\Documents and Settings\{UserName}\Application
Data\Microsoft\Proof). It works there for me. It may also work in the
folder with MSSP3EN.LEX (D:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\Proof), but I haven't tried it there. If it did, that would make
it global to all users, which you may or may not want.

Thanks Gary - I'm using Word XP and have put the .exc file in both locations
for good measure but still cannot get Word to highlight the US spellings as
errors.

Thanks James - using autocorrect only corrects the spelling as you type - if
you insert files / subdocuments with text already in them it doesn't
highlight them as an error. I have checked your suggest for Exceptions in
here also but that is used to NOT autocorrect abbreviations, logos etc.

Is the file named MSSP3EN.EXC? A misspelled filename or misplaced file
are the only things I know of that would prevent it from working.
