Modifying parts of a scheduled by SDate plan to be scheduled by FD

Hope this isn't a daft question...

I have a programme plan - that is a Microsoft Project plan that contains
lots of sub
projects.

It was created by my predecessor and was (I presume) scheduled by Start Date.

I want to change one or more of the sub projects so that I specify an end
date for
the last task, and it works backwards to tell me the latest date I can start
the project to achieve the desired end date (as it would if I'd specified
"scheduled by Finish Date" when the plan was created).

I only want certain parts of the plan to behave in this way, however.

Is this possible?

Will this question generate more weary head shaking than my tiny ego can
handle?

Hi Peter,

There are several ways to achieve this but by far the simplest thing is to
remember that Project always calculates both earliest and latest dates so
just insert a column "Latest Start" and you can select which one you will
use.
