modifying styles

J

John Garate

Word 2002, windows XP.
How can I modify a style by example. That is, change the text in the
document and then have the program update the current sytle based on the
changes I've made? You use to be able to do this very simply on the older
versions of Word.

Hi, John,

Select the text where you've changed the formatting. In the Styles and
Formatting task pane, hover the mouse over the name of the original
style until the down arrow appears, click the arrow, and click "Update
to Match Selection".

Hi John,

Jay provided the easiest way, but if you wish to update by reapplying
the style go to Tools/Options/Edit and turn on "Prompt to update
style".
