Modifying Tasks Status Popup List

Does anyone know if you can and if so how to modify the
list of valid values that shows up in the popup list for
the status of a Task? The delivered values are: Not
Started, In Progress, Completed, Waiting on someone else
and Deferred.

I was wondering if I could add my own statuses to the
list.

You can't change the built-in list.
