Mord 2000 - Cursor appears in the middle of the page

When I open a new document in Word, the cursor appears half way down the
page. The rulers appear to show the correct margins and, under page setup,
the margins on top and bottom are deignated as 1". The only way to type
above where the cursor appears is by inserting a text box. Any suggestions
as to what might be wrong?

File > Page setup > Layout (tab)

Under vertical alignment, change it to "top" from "center."

Click on the Default button and then on the OK button.
