More avi in PowerPoint Questions

Using Powerpoint 2000 on Windows 2000 and Windows XP (same problem on both
operation systems.)

A bit of background:
If I try to run the avi file in powerpoint I get a MCI Error (There is no
drvier installed on your system).
If I try to run the avi file in Windows Media Player I get an error (Windows
Media Player cannot play the file. One or more codecs required to play this
file could not be found).

What I have done to date:
After doing research through this discussion group, I have now loaded DivX,
DirectX and Codecs.
I no longer get any or the errors above and the avi file does now run in
Windows Media Player. Unfortunately I still can't get it to run in
Powerpoint. I don't get any error messages, just the owl glass for a short
period of time.
The avi file is 30MB, however if does work fine on a laptop.

Any suggesions?

DivX movies fail as often as work when played in the MCI media player (Used
by PowerPoint, not the Windows Media Player). While you may get it to work
on your specific machine with a lot of mucking about, it's almost a
certainty you won't be able to play the presentation on another machine. I
strongly suggest converting the video to a more standard Windows format such
as WMV.

There are several applications you might want to try if you are the "do it
yourself" kind or you can download www.pfcmedia.com and let it do it
automatically.
