more taskpanes?

Are there more taskpanes around? In particular, I would like to have the
ability to jot down notes or structure in such a way that I can easily see it
- a taskpane would be perfect...

Have you looked at OneNote? Its Side Note feature is terrific for jotting
because the note pane stays on top of any other window you're working in.
