More video issues ...

I've read all(?) the wisdom on the various (excellent!) websites concerning
the inclusion of video in a PowerPoint presentation - thank you Sonia and
others - but I'm still unable to achieve my goal without a kludgy workaround
.... however, it *does* kind of work so I thought it worth sharing ...
Forgiveness is begged if I'm trying to teach Granny to suck eggs, but I've
not seen anything like this documented elsewhere ...

My goal is to move on a mouse click from a static slide to a 3-minute or so
video clip which then moves on to the next slide automatically on
completion, and the video is displayed on BOTH the laptop internal screen
AND the projector SIMULTANEOUSLY. I am just an ordinary user and by no means
expert in the black art of PowerPointing, but from received wisdom and
practical experimenting it became clear that the only way (well, the only
way that I could find, anyway) to get the video to display in full screen
mode on both internal and external monitors at the same time was to force
PowerPoint to use Windows Media Player, not the 'hidden' MCI media player
that it normally invokes (yes, confusing isn't it!).

So, in slide view (on the slide where the video is required), do View>
Toolbars> Control Toolbox> More Controls (the crossed hammer and spanner
button)> (scroll down to) select Windows Media Player> left click and drag
on the slide area to make a square - into which then a WMPlayer window
magically appears> Properties (in the Control Toolbox Window which should
still be visible)> .... er .. ahh, here in PowerPoint 2000 SR1 I've run out
of steam, but on my PC at work where I was doing this today, THAT version of
P/Point (in XP) allowed me to specify the name and location of the file
containing the video, and to set options regarding the visibility or
otherwise of the WMPlayer toolbar etc.

The bit about moving on to the next slide is still unresolved. The only
(clumsy) way I've managed to do this is to set an automatic slide transition
time the same as the time for which the video runs, so that as the final
video shot has just faded to black, up pops the next static slide. This is
a bit inconvenient because the transition time has to be changed any time
the video is edited (and it's still evolving at the moment!) and there's
little control over the video when it's playing. Also, the final set of
options (in the WMPlayer Properties) doesn't seem to persist, and I have to
set them immediately before running the presentation. Coming back to it a
second time, the settings have disappeared.

It's all jolly confusing for a simple country boy, but I hope I may have
added a little to the wisdom on this topic ...

In fact, I seem to have the same options in the 2000 version - I just missed
it because the button with the three dots didn't appear for some reason!
Anyway, in the
Properties window, the first line is labelled 'Custom' and has (should
have!) a little button with three dots on it and clicking that brings up one
more window in which the file name etc. is specified. Sorry, it's late and
it's been a long day ... brain fade !!
