Tom,
There are at least 8-12 of us who are looking at the newsgroups on this site and trying to resolve issues that people are having. Like i said these are the top two issues that are coming up, though they may not address your specific issue. This is exactly why i asked you/Chad to provide me with a problem definition in the first place. I did not want to dump some KB articles on you guys without knowing what the problem was in the first place.

Unless you encounter a specific problem and you bubble the info back to us, we cannot do anything. If this was a general statement made, to make us aware of issues, then be assured that we are fully aware of issues customers are having. I thought that there was a specific underlying issue that was causing this statement and i was trying to address that issue.

Anyhow if you encounter a specific issue, please reply back.

Thanks

With all due respect, Rohit, I said "prominent". We're seeing problems in
many newsgroups, including the FrontPage newsgroups, and your two links
don't seem to address those particular issues.

I strongly recommend MS employees peruse the many different newsgroups to
see what's going on, and collaberate.

You have to understand that not all users understand where to go, how to
look, and where to dig.

I, for one, will *not* install Office SP1 until I can be assured it won't
*break* me.

| All the fixes are publicly documented. The reason i have not listed
anything specific here, is because not all people have the same issues. I
wanted to know specifically what the issue Chad was having before dumping a
load of KB articles for him to browse thru. Anyhow if you want, i will list
the top two issues that i am aware of that are being reported
|
| 1. Local Install Cache is causing problems
| There is a tool available from the Office Resource Kit web site that will
fix that for you. The Local Installation Source Tool that provides the
ability to repair the Local Installation Source is available for download
from
|
| http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2003/journ/LISTool.htm.
| In addition of repairing the LIS, it will also provide the ability to
move it to another
| disk drive.
|
| 2. You are seeing the following message""This patch package could not be
opened. Verify that the patch package
| exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to
| verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package."
| or some other patch specific issue.
|
| Try using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility detailed here to uninstall
Office:
|
| When you reinstall don't forget to not delete the local cache files at the
end of the installation so you will have your Local Install Source intact
and will be able to patch your Office installation without the possible need
of the CD.

| Thanks
