Most compatible video format for PowerPoint?

I'm creating a video for a client that they will use to insert into a
PowerPoint presentation and projector. The problem lies in the fact that they
are not sure what operating system or version of PowerPoint will be used. I
want to provide the most reliable format, with 1-2 possible backups.

I'd go for MPEG1.
