Most Recently Used Files list is not correct

The Most Recently Used Files list in Word is not correct.
Documents created or changed do not also appear on that
list. Why?

That sounds like a data key registry issue to me. Take a look here:

Could also be caused by using Word as the email editor for Outlook.
