Motion Paths Question

What is the meaning of locked and unlocked when incorporating a motion path
in a slide?

 

[Bill Dilworth]

Locked means that the motion path is anchored to it's position on the slide
Unlocked (default) means the shape and path will be moved in edit view
together.

IMHO, confusing terminology.
