Mouse idiosyncracy with Office 2003

This is going to amuse some people. Not exactly a problem but rather
curious.

I have a Microsoft two-button mouse with a wheel and the wheel is set to
double-click. It works as a double-click in all programs except for the
various Office 2003 components (Word, Excel, Access, etc.). Within these
programs it works as a double-click but when you go to a "file, open" menu,
it works as a single-click. I have never seen anything like it before. The
files still open with a double-wheel click or a double-left click, but in
all the other programs a single-wheel click would do the trick. Now what
the heck is that all about? Just curious! Thanks in advance.

I have just noticed something else. In Word, for example, when you select
"file>open" you get a menu with all the files. normally when you select a
file with a left-click the file's name goes into the "file_name" box next to
the "open" button. In mine, it does not BUT if you click the open button,
the file will open. No other program in my PC works like that. Curiouser
and curiouser!
