Mouse will not work in word

Mouse will not work in word. I cannot paint text, use right click button for
options, etc. Keyboard and keyboard commands work fine. When I close Word
2007 a dialog box pops up titled, "Microsoft Office Word has stopped
working". I can check online solution or restart the program and neither
accomplish anything. When I select view problem details I get the following:

Could be a damaged Word data key in the Windows registry. Close
Word 2007, start regedit, and rename the
"\\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data"
key. Word 2007 will create a new Data key using the factory
default settings when you restart the program. If this fixes the
problem, great... but you might have to re-select some of your
Word Options settings. If it doesn't, you can close Word 2007,
go back into regedit, delete the newly created Word data key, and
rename the old key back to its original name to retrieve your old
Word Options settings.

That may be a symptom of a Word Data Key corruption - usually because Word
has been running when updates are installed.

Run Regedit and expand by double-clicking to the key below. With DATA
selected, press DELETE. Word will automatically recreate a new key when it
is restarted.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data

Symptoms of Data Key corruption may include:

• The mouse does not work when you use Word.
• You cannot open a Word document from the Search window in Windows
Vista.
• You cannot open a Word document from Windows Desktop Search.
• Word crashes when you try to start or exit Word.
• Word crashes when you open the Open dialog box.
• Word crashes when you save a document.
• Word crashes when you close a document.

If you feel uncomfortable editing the registry yourself, Microsoft have a
download that will do this for you. See MSKB 940791

Terry,

This is my first time to ever use this discussion board. I followed the link
in Regedit all the way to where i needed to be but chickened out when i got
there. I opted to try your "if you feel uncomfortable with this" suggestion
and it was solved in about 5 seconds. I was about to trash the computer over
this problem. I cannot figure out how to rate your post and you deserve a
10+. Tell me what to do to rate you and that is the absolute least i can do.
Thank you so much.

I did spend the whole day trying to solve my word problems (it crashed on
exit) without any results. Thank you for posting the link to the Microsoft
download that actually did fix it. "If you feel uncomfortable editing the
registry yourself, Microsoft have a download that will do this for you. See
