Hi - When the user passes their mouse over an icon on my site I'd like to
display a piece of text in a specific area of the site. Can you tell me how
to do this please or point me in the right direction.

Investigate the set text of layer behavior (FP2003) as one way to do this.
Beware - if you are going to use layers, there are some gotchas lurking
there. Read about them here -

In the hyperlinks dialogue, there is button labelled "Screen Tip" Click
that, and enter in the field that pops up the description you want.
