.mov files

When I try to insert a movie file (.mov), the file does not show in the
folder. It IS there, and shows when I select "all files". Needless to say,
it does not insert.

Yep, PowerPoint doesn't support .mov files - you will either need to convert
them or add the quicktime player as an object. There are many programmes for
converting such as quicktime pro or super:

Can I suggest you have a read of this tutorial before attempting to do
anything with video & powerpoint. I can guarantee that it will be time well
