Move my web from My Documents

S

SueF

I read way back in the discussions that one should create their web at
C:/name of web. FP2000 automatically put my web in My Documents because I
didn't know any better. How can I safely move my web to where it belongs.
Also read that Import and My Computer aren't the way. Now I'm confused, but I
want it right.

Placement of my web on my computer may be the trouble I had with my hit
counter as on the server side it was looking for a couple of My Documents
files.

Help somebody, please.

Leave your site exactly where it is. I have all 16 sites in
a MyWebs folder in My Documents.
When I use Windows XP to back up My Documents to a second
computers 2nd hard drive, I now have three copys. On the
server, on my hard drive and in the back up computers
drive. Redundant? Yes? The secure feeling is great.

Your problem with the hit counter involves something other
than your sites location in My Documents.

if you have a working web at c:/mydocuments/name of web that
is OK - I assume it is a web based on your desktop computer.

If you wish to move it elsewhere on that computer you open
the existing web and "publish" to the location you desire,
you can then open at that location. When publishing FP will
probably advise that it will need to convert the web to a FP
web - this is OK.

The errors that you have received from my documents may
relate to not using the import function to place files in
your web.

eg you want to have example.pdf available in your web, open
the web and import the file to the location and then provide
the link to that file.

When you web is working as you wish open it and "publish"
the web to your server provider, ensure that they utilise FP
extensions if you are using and aspects of FP that require
them.

Always work on you web disk based web for any changes and
when it is all OK "publish" to the service provider
again )preferably using "publish changed pages only" FP will
prompt for any major changes it wants to make eg delete
files of overwrite files

good luck

Geoff

Thank you. That will be good for making a back up. Microsoft Tech walked me
through one time, then I forgot how.

I was worried, from reading the discussion string back on about page 163,
that I had done something wrong. Apparently not. I'm trying to learn as fast
as I can but it's sometimes hard to know what I should not pay attention to.
At least I've learned to ask before I try something.

I appreciate your answer.
Cheers, Sue
