move text from one cell to another

Hi,

From a data download into Excel 97 have the first and last
name in one/same cell. Trying to get the first name in
one cell and the last in another cell for sorting and mail
merge purposes. Same dilemma with city and state info.
Both in one cell where want to get them in separate cells.

Possible?

How to do this?

one way: use 'Data - Text to columns' for this

You can use data>text to columns or a macro. It depends on how it is set up.

on the excel menu bar, try Data>text to Columns.
It will overwrite data so be sure to add a column.
