Movie doesn't show on projector screen

The movie I inserted in powerpoint (office XP) plays on
the Laptop monitor but is only a black box on the screen
when played though an NEC projector.

Do you have the laptop set up for dual monitors and are you displaying the
presentation on the secondary monitor?
