moviemaker wmv clips playing slowly

I have been finding that .wmv files created by moviemaker are slow to
open when inserted into powerpoint (take about 30 secs to start
playing) any ideas?

The movies clips are short no more than a few Mb. Shortening the path
length has improved the opening time to about 10 seconds, I've
defragmented as well but it didn't make much difference. Anything
else I can do to try and speed up the opening time?

It sounds as if you may have installed other media applications that are
conflicting. Usually the simplest "fix" is to download and re-install
Windows Media Player.

I've got media player 10 installed at the moment. When I tried
downloading and reinstalling it comes up saying I've already got a
newer version and won't let me reinstall it. Is there a way round
this?

To be honest, I am at a loss. I have never seen a situation where you could
not reinstall Windows Media Player if it's the same version. I know this is
way out in left field, but is there any chance at all you have Media Player
11 (Beta) installed? If you truely have version 10 installed and can not
re-install it, I think your best bet is to contact Microsoft Tech Support.
