I have designed a database which is on my desktop at the moment. the system
i am does not allow me to send this by email to the recipients who need to
also use it as we have strong firewalls in place. i do need to be able to
put this database on the organisation's shared drive but it doesn't seem to
want to go. any ideas guys?

Emails sometimes block attachments with the .mdb extension. If you
temporarily rename it (e.g. md_) and instruct the recipient to rename it
back.

If you can't simply copy a file to what should be a main shared drive, you
might have an old empire-style IT department that blocks productivity. The
way to find out is to ask them to fix it and see what happens and what they
say.

It gets even better. The folder where you deploy your database has to
provide read, write, delete priviledges for the users or it will not work in
a multi user situation.

A couple thoughts for sorting it out:

Clarify to yourself - is this problem occurring when emailing, or when just
trying to copy it to a drive.

Then make a little wordprocessor fiel and save it in text (.txt) format.
Then try to:

1. Copy it to that problem drive
2. Open the copy on the problem drive
3. Delete the file

If you have problems with any of these, start on the below list and tell
them that that you can't do your job and your company is losing money
because the shared drive that you're supposed to use won't even let you put
files on it or do even basic file operations.

IT Person
IT Manager
CIO
COO
CEO
Board or Owners

When you get someone who won't help you, start a "they're not doing their
job" list and put their name on it. When you work your way up to somebody
who understands, tell them to fire everybody that you had to add to your
list.
