moving content from WSS 3.0 to PS 07

I have ~250 sites on wss 3.0 with doc libraries, lists, dicussions, etc. We
are now implementing Project Server, and all of the content needs to be moved
over to project server workspaces. stsadm import and export would be an easy
solution, except that import and export have to use the same templates. As
the wss sites are bases on different templates than project workspaces, that
won't work.

Is there any suggested mechanism for copying data from WSS 3.0 to PS 07?

I have no experience with this, but I know there are (commercial) tools that
can help you with this.
