Moving email between folder

I am trying to move an email from an Imap folder to a Pop folder and all that
happens is that the email I try to move is greyed out and striked out. I have
tried to synchronise folders and send/receive but the remain in the imap
folder.

That's how IMAP accounts work. Messages are _marked_ for deletion and you
must click Edit>Purge Deleted Messages in order to actually remove them from
the server. You can use the "Hide Messages Marked for Deletion" view if
you'd rather not see them.
