Moving Folders

With Outlook 2003, I cannot move a folder to a different mail box using the
shortcut menu.
Outlook open a messagebox talking about cannot copy this folder because it
might contain private item.
I have to drag the folder to be able to move it.
Outlook 2000 work OK.
Is there any patch to fix that 2003 problem?

You cannot move the Inbox folder, but you can move subfolders and set up
Rules to move mail to diff folders.

What exactly do you mean by the "shortcut" menu? How exactly are you trying
to do this?

I have owner permission to our SalesAdmin mailbox. When I right click on a
subfolder in SalesAdmin mailbox and click on Move Folder "folder name",
outlook come with a message box saying: Cannot copy this folder because it
may contain private items.
I can drag the same folder from salesadmin mailbox to my mailbox with no
problem.

IF YOU HAVE SERVICE PACK 2 INSTALLED FOR OUTLOOK THIS PROBLEM WILL OCCUR.
PLEASE UNINSTALL OUTLOOK AND REINSTALL OUTLOOK WITH ONLY SERVICE PACK 1 OR IF
POSSBILE UNINSTALL ONLY SERVICE PACK 2 AND TRY. IT WILL WORK. NO ERRORS
WILLCOME. ALTERNATIVELY TRY USING A OUTLOOK WHICH IS NOT UPGRADED TO SERVICE
PACK 2 THANKS!

Hi all

I think I know why this happens, although it is no better than an educated
guess so you should take it with a pinch of salt - and please do correct me
if you know better!

The Private flag isn't directly related to permissions, it's something
Outlook uses and may not be respected by other mail clients. This is
discussed in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/198286.

The typical scenario with secondary mailboxes is that a delegate will open
his/her manager's mailbox as a secondary. The manager may have set
permissions where the delegate cannot see Private items.

I believe the way the move/copy is processed means that all items are
included in the folder regardless of their Private status. (Perhaps they are
processed with simple MAPI - I don't know this bit, someone from Microsoft
may be able to enlighten us.)

So I'm guessing this function was introduced in SP2 to prevent a delegate
from (deliberately or otherwise) dragging a manager's items, including
private ones, to their own folders where they would have full permissions.

Hope this helps!

Julia
