Moving FP Files between Computers?

W

Whit Peterson

Hi - I tried to move several FP webs between 2 pc's by burning them to a
CDR and then copying them to the new pc. It seemed to work fine until I
changed a file, then tried to save it. I received a server error: cannot
open file "c:\.........\_vti_pvt\service.lck". When I tried "Save As", I
get an error message that file is "read only." Is there any way to transfer
these files via CDR without errors? Thanks for your help,
Whit

Hi Whit,

Files copied to CD are read only. Did you reset the permissions when copied
to the new PC?

No! - How do I do that? Lots of files - any way to do that as a group?
Thanks,
Whit

Right click the folder and unselect the read only attribute (for all files and folders)
If not on Win XP search for the utility CROA

PS
The recommended way to transfer webs is to Publish from your online web In FP to your new local
- you will have to do a publish All to/from the new machine anyway to get FP in sync, so do it once

Stefan - thanks for the great tip on CROA. I had also moved a bunch of
other non-FP files, and all showed up as read-only. As always, you're also
right on the "Publish" route. I was trying to be cute and save time. Thanks
again.
