Moving IMAP messages to IMAP folders

Hi -

I use Outlook 2003 with two IMAP email accounts at work. I am loath
to purge deleted items (both within OL 2003 and on Horde on the server
because that seems to purge items marked for deletion from ALL folders
not just the one that I'm currently "In".

I would like to move email messages out of my IMAP inboxes to IMA
subfolders to keep down the number of messages in the IMAP inboxe
(thinking that that would improve response times).

However, when I move messages from the inboxes to the IMAP subfolders
a copy of the messages is left behind in the inbox, marked for deletion

How can I move them from the inbox to a sub folder without just endin
up with duplicate copies in both places, albeit with one set of copie
marked for deletion?

Thanks,
Ti

No it won't improve response times unless you unsubscribe from the folder
you move messages to.
IMAP email accounts mirror ALL the subscribed folders that exist on the mail
server.

However, when I move messages from the inboxes to the IMAP subfolders,
a copy of the messages is left behind in the inbox, marked for deletion.

You can't. That's how IMAP works.
If you open the folder you have moved messages FROM, and then click on
File-Purge does it not give you the option to purge that folder only? (Does
in 2007....)

With Outlook's implementation of IMAP, you can't. A move is a copy, then a
delete and delete in IMAP simply marks the original, it doesn't perform the
purge, so a move is actually a copy/mark for delete operation.
