Moving Office XP from a dead machine to a new one

I purchased Office XP stand-alone; it did not come with
my old machine. The old machine just died. I want to
reload office onto my replacement machine, but am afraid
to because I have heard that microsoft does some kind of
checking and if all is not the same, meaning if Office XP
is now on a different machine, it will kill it after 30
days. Surely Microsoft can't expect me to rebuy the
software!

What can/should I do?

Use the telephone method of Activation and explain the situation. No
problems/ no repurchase necessary.
