Moving SharePoint Services

Client currently has PS2003 and WSS running on same box. Wants to stop WSS on
this box and transfer team sites to different server running WSS. Is there a
KB article detailing how to connect an existig PS2003 installation to an
existing WSS instance, or any other source of guidance?

Thanks

Ben:

Thanks for the reply. This was close, but the databases are not moving.

Right now, Project Server and SharePoint sevices are running on the same
server. The client has a dedicated server for SharePoint, which is on a
different box. What I need to do is tell Project Server that it should start
creating sites on the new SharePoint server rather than the one co-installed
with Project Server.

Of course, prior to that I need to set up whatever needs setting up on the
SharePoint server we'll be moving to. I'm sure that this in't the first time
this scenario has played out, and I was hoping someone who has already bled
over this had some words of wisdom.

Thanks though.

Hi John,
Apologies, I misread your post. I've never done this but I'd approach it
with the following main points in mind...

1. Configure the new WSS server.
2. Run stswiz.exe on the new WSS server.
3. Configure ther server to access the existing content DBs.
4. Configure PS in the admin section to point to the new server.

Much easier said than done.

Thanks Ben. That's actually kind of what I was looking for, and was helpfl as
there are KB articles explaining each of those steps.

Thanks again.

I've done this a couple of times, but it was more than a year ago, so
I don't remember specifics. The biggest problem we had was that,
depending on the process we followed, Project Server would sometimes
clear out all of the links to any sharepoint sites. For some reason it
would decide that we were using a new sharepoint server and wouldn't
try to access the old sites on the new server.

To make sure you have a way to undo this, I would make sure you backup
the projectserver database immediately before changing things and be
ready to back out.
