I need to clarify something you've said that makes a difference in my
response.

Did Office come with your laptop? You say "It didn't come with my computer"
but since you have two computers, I need to make sure.

That's a completely different question.

Because you purchased your Office separately, Microsoft can help you
*assuming you are talking about Office XP or 2003* and not an academic
version. I also have to assume you are in the US.

Yes, that is a correct assumption... i'm not sure which version of microsoft
office it is, but it's not brand new, and i do live here in the USA.

Start Word on the laptop. Under Help - About Word, it will tell you which
version you have.

You will need to know what you have when you call MS. Download Belarc
Advisor, http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html, on the laptop. It will
tell you which version you have. And if it's XP or 2003, it will give you
the product key. MS will ask for that before they will help you. BTW -
replacement CDs are not free. Office XP Pro will cost about $30, not sure
what the cost of other versions. (Do you hear the voice of someone who's
been there and done that recently?)
