Moving the Project Server / WSS / SQL Database to a new domain

S

Steven

The IT department is in the process of moving all user accounts and equipment
(including Project Server) to a new domain. The old domain will be made
inactive. Does anyone have any experience changing domains and advice help
prevent problems?

Hi Steven,

Question...
When you say "new domain" is it a new child Active Directory domain
under the same AD Forest or a totally different AD Forest?

Let us know when you have a chance

Rolly,
The server must move to a totally different AD forest. The Project Server
is a single computer configuration with the Project Server 2003 application,
WSS, and SQL Server database all on the same machine.
Best Regards,
Steven

Hi Steven,

A couple of pointers when you take your single-server and join it to the
new forest/domain...

- Make sure that the service accounts get recreated and reconfigured in
the new forest/domain. Just refer back to the Single Server Installation
Guide as your reminder.
- Make sure that any DNS aliases (CNAME) used for Host Headers (if any)
are migrated to the new DNS server in the new domain/forest.
- If you used FQDNs in your Project Server and/or WSS URLs you will need
to reset those to the new FQDN of the new domain/forest.
- Don't change the computer name. However if you must change it to
comply with the server naming policy, let us know and we can help. But
be prepared to send some time :-S

If I think of any more pointers I'll post them here.

Good Luck and let us know how it turns out

Rolly,
Thank you very much for the information. I think we can continue to use the
same server name. I hope to postpone the move for a few months but may not
be able to do so. User accounts are currently being moved to the new
domain. The users on the new domain continue to have access to the server
and are able to update tasks successfully via Internet Explorer PWA or
Project Pro. We do not use the Active Directory interface currently but I
plan to do so once the Server and all users are moved to a single domain.
Best Regards,
Steven

Our company has just made a network move. Since the move, the project server
- which now has a new domain - is accessible through the link, however we
cannot make the connection from MS Project work (Project Server Accounts).
Also, all the workspaces are still pointing to the old URL and we cannot
figure out how to change them. Any ideas?

Steven, I'm about to embark on this same path, moving Project Server 2003/WSS
(reside on same server) and SQL Database (resides on different server) to a
new domain. Any suggestions or insight would be greatly appreciated. Did
you locate any documentation from Microsoft about this? Thanks!
