Moving to another Server - Project Server 2002

N

Neil Ratcliffe

Hi,

We have a standard two server config (Project Server box and SQL box). We
are also running Sharepoint and OLAP.

We are migrating our Project Server DB to a new SQL Server Box (for
upgrading). The Database will simply be saved and restored from the old
one, but the Server Name will be different.

How do we make sure that our Project Server app is pointing to the right
server and what is the process we should follow for ensuring a smooth
transition to the new server with minimum downtime ?

Can we use EditSite to do this ? What are the implications for OLAP, IIS
and Sharepoint settings ?

Thanks

Neil Ratcliffe

I cover this topic in my book. It's too much information for a news group
post. You can get a copy from the link in my signature.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for the response - I do have your book which is excellent BTW - but I
am strggling to find the relevant section in the book - can you point me to
the correct pages please ?

It has also been suggested to me that the EditSite.exe tool would allow us
to change the database to another one residing on a different server - is
this true ?

Thanks

Neil

Neil:

I talk about migrating the database to a different "server set" beginning
on page 100. If you're pointing an existing Project Server box to a new
database server, and that's all that's changing, then some of that topic is
of interest to you. The Site Editor is covered in Chapter 7. Yes that's the
tool you want and it's available for for only 2002 at the moment. You can
otherwise make the neccessary registry changes manually. The settings are
also covered in Chapter 7 and TechNet.
